Windows 11 24H2 has reached the end of updates for Home and Pro editions. If your PC still shows version 24H2, it may keep working normally, but it will no longer receive the monthly fixes that protect supported versions against newly found security problems.
Microsoft says KB5127648, released on 13 October 2026, is the final monthly security update for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro. This applies to Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations. It does not mean every edition of 24H2 is out of support: Enterprise and Education have a different timetable.
Check whether your PC is affected
Open Settings > System > About. Under Windows specifications, look for both the edition and version.
You need to act if the version is 24H2 and the edition is Home, Pro, Pro Education or Pro for Workstations. Microsoft's Home and Pro lifecycle page lists 24H2 as ending on 14 October 2026. Windows 11 25H2 and 26H2 are still supported.
Business PCs need a little more care. Windows 11 24H2 Enterprise and Education remain supported until 13 October 2027, so do not judge a managed computer by the version number alone. Check the edition, and speak to whoever manages the device before forcing a feature update.
What to do next
Back up important documents, photos and work files first. A feature update should preserve them, but a current backup gives you a way back if the installation fails or exposes an existing storage fault.
Then open Start > Settings > Windows Update and choose Check for updates. If a newer Windows 11 version is offered, select Download & install, keep the laptop connected to power and restart when Windows asks. Microsoft gives the same route in its Windows Update instructions.
Do not download a supposed Windows updater from an advert, pop-up or unfamiliar website. You also do not need a registry cleaner or driver-update utility. Use Windows Update unless there is a specific, diagnosed reason to use Microsoft's own installation tools.
If the update is missing or fails
A newer version may not appear immediately if Microsoft has placed a compatibility hold on the PC. Low free space, damaged Windows files, an unhealthy drive or incompatible software can also stop a feature update.
If Windows Update shows an error, note the full error code before trying fixes. Avoid repeating forced upgrades if the computer freezes, rolls back to 24H2 or starts making unusual drive noises. Those symptoms need diagnosis, not another cleaner app.
Older PCs can also expose a separate problem: they may run Windows 11 24H2 but struggle with later releases, or they may have been installed using an unsupported workaround. In that case, the sensible choice depends on the hardware, drive health, backup state and how the computer is used. It may need a repair, an SSD or memory upgrade, replacement, or a planned move of the data rather than another forced installation.
When local help makes sense
We can help when a 24H2 PC will not offer the next feature update, repeatedly fails or rolls back, has too little storage, or needs its files backed up before work begins. For a home PC, that may mean repairing Windows or checking whether a Windows 11 upgrade is safe. A slow machine may benefit from a measured computer upgrade, while managed office devices may need business IT support so that updates do not interrupt shared software or access.
The important point is simple: check both the edition and version. If a Home or Pro PC is still on Windows 11 24H2, do not leave it there assuming ordinary monthly updates will continue.
